Re: Awesome Just Awesome
I haven't used Ubuntu for some time, or at least, not used the mainline Ubuntu release. I ended up shopping around and discovered a lot of marvellous operating systems, many of them based on Ubuntu.
I recently set up a new hard drive and decided to give Ubuntu 13.04 a shot. I quite liked 12.04, 12.10, but not enough to use them. I started a thread a while ago about how awesome 13.04 is, but then never installed it. I just ended up playing with it live. This was enough to see how far it had come on, but I chickened out of taking the plunge back into Ubuntu.
This has changed recently, and I decided to give it a proper go. It's now fully installed and updated, with pretty much all my favourite stuff up and running how I like it. And I have to say it has seriously wowed me. There's clearly been a ton of work done on making it more stable. I haven't had so much as a hitch or a glitch, beyond Nvidia causing its usual problems with the boot screen which happens with every distro. But what has really surprised me is the speed. A lot of reviews have focused on negativity, such as why is X feature missing or Y functionality. To me, I'd take the compromise of system improvements and speed gains over rushing new features in, and the decision to hold back new stuff to solidify Ubuntu and Unity has paid off imho.
How nice it is to be back on Ubuntu. Really missed it, and it's nice to be back in my occasional cheer leader role.
