Lubuntu Plays Almost all Video out Of Box !! When It Happend ??

I installed LUBUNTU 12.04 in my friends 1gb ram laptop for his basic requirements ..
Bt Found LUBUNTU Plays .avi,mp4 and many video formats without any extra codecs ???

When googled found LUBUNTU has an Option to install 3rd party codecs During Installation ..
Well i dont remeber i checked that one , but the machine was not connected to internet while installing ..

So was the codec available in CD itself ??
Does UBUNTU also started providing this type of codecs during installation ??

I use to try every flavor of Ubuntu for a test and never found this ...
always installed ubuntu-restricted-codecs after installation ....

So did other UBUNTU derivatives Ships with Codecs available On CD ???

I'm not a 100% sure, but I think I saw something similar with Lubuntu 13.04. I too didn't install additional software during the original installation but I seem to remember playing .mp3 files! I installed lubuntu restricted extras later on.

You would expect that if the 3rd party stuff required the internet, the check box could not be checked if you had no internet connection. That certainly applies for 'Download Updates' during install.

I don't use "LINUXMINT". It's two small steps to get a fully loaded Ubuntu with software of my choice versus the other distro that is "fully loaded" with stuff I may not need.

I seem to recall it can be checked regardless of your internet, which suggests some codecs may be part of the cd build.
fluendo release the mp3 codecs free
