SD card photo disappeared after connecting to Ubuntu

Ihave recently purchased Ubuntu 12.01 Dell machine. after the installation i wanted to view the photo available on my SD card 4GB ( data size 2GB). It took long time to load the photos from SD card on the machine & we could view the photos, next day we tried to view the photos again this time we were able to see the folder & volume size but no files visible. we removed the card tried on windows OS & camera both the places we couldn't find files.

Has Ubuntu changed the file format of SD card? if yes how to restore or view photos from the card.

    Regards
    Ravi

Has Ubuntu changed the file format of SD card?
No, I use SD cards all the time and have had no problems.

You mentioned "after the installation". Did you move the photos onto the machine immediately after installing Ubuntu but before re-booting?
For example if I boot up with a live CD then download a file it will not be saved when the machine is switched off.
