    SPDIF gigabyte motherboard

I have a gigabyte motherboard, speifically (GA-MA790XT-UD4P). I have also purchased a gigabyte SPDIF input bracket for the back of the tower, and connected it to the SPDIF input on the motherboard. (see Picture)

In my sound setting, SPDIF is listed on the output tab, but not on the input tab.

The motherboard had AMD chipset, In response to a question regarding AMD chipset drivers, AMD provided the following:

"As the chipset drivers for our products are already included in the supported Linux flavours (including Ubuntu 12.04) it will not be possible to download these from AMD, since they will already be part of your Ubuntu distribution. This is the case for all AMD chipsets with the supported Linux flavours (Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, RHEL)."

So my question: How do I get Ubuntu to see except a SPDIF input?
