VERY Unhappy System - 12.04

OK, so wound up finally getting some log feedback using the 'tail' command. On trying to both click on an effected preference pane and launch software center got the following log response:

Well looking like this is Unfixable. Too Bad. Had high hopes that Ubuntu would be a suitable replacement from the Apple Money Machine, but is just seem too fragile and difficult to debug when something goes really wrong. Thanks everyone for the attempts to help.
