    Re: Mir builds for Saucy

Yes i think it makes sense to push Mir BUT currently i am a bit confused about all the PPAs:

This one should give us system compositor + Mir?

    https://launchpad.net/~mir-team/+arc...ositor-testing

    But ARM builds fails.

This one should give us Unity 8 on top of Mir?

    https://launchpad.net/~phablet-team/+archive/mir

But amd64 and i386 build failed.

    Then there are core apps:

    https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-touch-...+archive/daily

But to be able to test them QT5 and SDK PPA must be added?

    https://launchpad.net/~canonical-qt5...ive/qt5-proper
    https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-sdk-team/+archive/ppa

Did i list everything concerning Ubuntu 13.10 tester or is there something i missed? Currently you can test Unity 8 on top of Mir if you own ARM device and you can test "plain console based Mir" on x86 and you can test core apps on x86?

By the end of this dev cycle user should be able to use all of this by default if users has FOSS drivers installed if proprietary driver is used fallback to Xorg will happen but in Ubuntu 14.04 there will be just Mir and no Xorg anymore just Xmir for legacy apps? That surely indicates Nvidia will support Mir through EGL in my opinion and AMD will work at least with FOSS driver that is maturing:

But i bet they will support Mir through EGL too. Bold move indeed but i guess i do like it and it makes sense to push once it was decided this is the way to go. About Wayland i guess i do look forward to see some (healthy) competition!

Well, I am there right now. I had a fresh install of saucy just waiting. No problems following those instructions. Not noticing any difference. but the code to find out if we are running on MIR is not very helpful

    Code:
    ps afx | grep unity-system-compositor
    gives

    3292 ? Sl 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/unity-system-compositor --from-dm-fd 7 --to-dm-fd 13 --vt 7
    3993 pts/13 S+ 0:00 \_ grep --color=auto unity-system-compositor
I suppose it would simply say unity instead of unity-system-compositor

The double vision cursors remind me of my old Maths teacher. He had eyes like a football team - one home and one away.

    Regards.

It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

Since I am (kind of) a Maths teacher, maybe that is the source of the problem I had... Good to know...

My wife says that she had a teacher with a similar affliction but he could hit a boy with a piece of chalk while looking somewhere else; Ah, the good old days of teaching.

I have noticed whilst posting on this forum that there is a slight delay in keyboard response. I do not know if that is a MIR effect. No crashes.

Nope! I think it might have to do with the auto save feature..?
