    Olli's page only says:

You can also simply check if the system compositor process is running:

    $> ps afx | grep unity-system-compositor
... but not what to expect.

However, I would *expect* more lines than just the grep line itself. However, I do not get those. Oh, wait, the ugly second mouse pointer is also gone. Maybe I'm not running Mir anymore .... ?

    Re: Is Mir running

definitive atm would be 2 cursors
    as far as grep -
This is when it's running, blue matters, red doesn't, not now, not ever
    ~$ ps afx | grep unity-system-com
    1172 ? Sl 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/unity-system-compositor --from-dm-fd 9 --to-dm-fd 13 --vt 7
    2297 pts/11 S+ 0:00 | \_ grep --color=auto unity-system-com
If you misspell you will only return grep on grep (color=auto), the red above (meaningless

    Re: Mir builds for Saucy

OK, the other laptop still has the other, large, useless mouse pointer. So here we go:

    Code:
    sander@flappie:~$ ps afx | grep unity-system-compositor
     1630 ? Sl 0:01 \_ /usr/bin/unity-system-compositor --from-dm-fd 10 --to-dm-fd 13 --vt 7
     5843 pts/9 S+ 0:00 | \_ grep --color=auto unity-system-compositor

    sander@flappie:~$ ps ax | grep unity-system-compositor
     1630 ? Sl 0:03 /usr/bin/unity-system-compositor --from-dm-fd 10 --to-dm-fd 13 --vt 7
     7227 pts/9 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto unity-system-compositor

sander@flappie:~$ ps ax | grep unity-system-compositor | grep -vi grep
     1630 ? Sl 0:03 /usr/bin/unity-system-compositor --from-dm-fd 10 --to-dm-fd 13 --vt 7
    sander@flappie:~$
So ... can others verify that:

    Code:
ps ax | grep unity-system-compositor | grep -vi grep
gives output on systems running Mir, but not on systems not running Mir?

I would like a definite method of knowing that Xmir is running. Reason? I just put Mir on an install of Kubuntu and I do not get the two cursors or any of the other little indications that Mir gives us.

By the way, I do not run restart lightdm. I think that it is better to shutdown and reboot.

I tried the same thing, got the same results, must be something missing.

I think the dualing cursors have been fixed. Today I installed the flavours with a view to putting them on mir. A couple of hours ago I set Kubuntu up with mir and then Lubuntu. Both had single cursors. Next I went into Saucy Ubuntu that was already on mir and had the cursed cursors + all the alternative desktops and after I run update and rebooted there is only one cursor. Included in the update was stuff regarding unity-system-compositor. And yet when I run that code for checking I do not get any blue writing but the red that we are all seeing.

I have also noticed that if we boot with recovery>resume that brings in llvmpipe and that only had one cursor anyway.

UPDATE: I have just gone back onto the official mir wiki and not only is the site now in keeping with Ubuntu design specifications but I also found this

In theory, you should now find yourself back in Ubuntu and not notice anything different. You can verify you're in Mir several ways:
    Code:
    ps aux | grep unity-system-compositor
    Code:
    grep -i xmir /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    Code:
    ls -l /var/log/lightdm/unity-system-compositor.log
    http://unity.ubuntu.com/mir/using_mir_on_pc.html

And this is what I get

    graham@sda4-saucy-btrfs:~$ ps aux | grep unity-system-compositor
    graham 2849 0.0 0.0 13648 952 pts/0 S+ 23:46 0:00 grep --color=auto unity-system-compositor
    graham@sda4-saucy-btrfs:~$ grep -i xmir /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    [ 27.559] xorg-server 2:1.13.3+xmir1-0 (For technical support please see http://www.ubuntu.com/support)
    graham@sda4-saucy-btrfs:~$ ls -l /var/log/lightdm/unity-system-compositor.log
    -rw------- 1 root root 2280 Jul 2 23:27 /var/log/lightdm/unity-system-compositor.log
I am glad that the devs are updating the wiki.

    Regards.

This is what I see in /var/log/lighdm/lightdm.log

    [+3.63s] DEBUG: Launching process 1292: /usr/sbin/unity-system-compositor --from-dm-fd 10 --to-dm-fd 13 --vt 7

    But why?

    Re: Mir builds for Saucy

I tried mac4mans method even with the two cursors running and still did not get the 'blue' code. In some other instances I think we are being rolled back to Xorg because I'll notice some really strange flickering, two cursors, then one , flash and then a stable X screen.

I think mac is right though.
