I have had a dual boot configuration for years with XP and all versions of Ubuntu back to 7.04. I now have 12.04.1 with the 35.0.x kernel. XP has been at SP3 for years. I have had no trouble until I decided to build a system. Now I can only get Ubuntu to boot. When I try to boot XP, the logo comes up, the blue progress bar starts for a second or two, then the machine recycles back through Bios and the boot menu. My hardware configuration is as follows:
- Intel I5-3570K @ 3.4 GHz;
- Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard;
- 4 G.Skill 8 GB DDR3 memory sticks;
- TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH224BB;
- Western Digital WD5000AAKS-0;
- Western Digital WD1501FASS-0;
- Western Digital WD1002FAEX-0;
All the HDD's and the CDDVDW were in my old machine and are SATA. My Bios has settings for UEFI and Legacy. The setting for my storage devices is Legacy and UEFI. I have tried it with Legacy only, but the results are the same. I am unsure as to what is happening because I get no messages to check. I wouldn't care except for one application that uses some hardware not supported by Ubuntu (a fax modem I still have to use on occasion). Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.
