Acer Aspire 12.10 Camera not Working

I have an Acer Aspire v5-531 laptop with Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit installed. I have searched for this info and haven't found anything that works. Folks usually just recommend installing cheese or something equally useless. I want the integrated webcam to work with anything. Especially Skype, being a rare and about the only thing i would use a webcam for. I punched lspci into the term and am not seeing it there. Where else should I look? How can I fix this? Is this issue fixed with 12.10 (which I have been hesitant to install since major upgrades like that usually break at least 2 vital components like wireless or something)?

Old (in this case a year or so) software does not go well with brand new hardware. I would begin with a fresh install of 13.04 , 64 bit.

Thanks moderator. @ morgaes I've been nervous about 13.04 and especially about 64-bit. But I think it's time for the leap. Perhaps not to 64-bit. I'm still unconvinced.

If you are installing 2-3 months after release (as in now) you have a good chance that most of the important bugs present at release date have been fixed.

Moreover, if you go for a slowly developing distro like Xubuntu you will have an even better chance for a smooth ride.
