Browse to a site and download something. Do you get any diagnostic information in the terminal before it freezes ?Code:firefox
I find it odd that it's still freezing here as this is where you would expect the virus scanner to do its job but you said you disabled it.
A LiveCD/USB is the Ubuntu install CD where you select the "try Ubuntu" option as opposed to installing straight away. After looking it up, I'm not fully sure what a LiveCD/USB and its use in this case. I have not run SMART, I'm not sure how to. I tried the memory test as suggested earlier.
From here you can run various diagnostic routines such as a fsck on the root filing system and SMART test on the drive itself - if the drive supports SMART.
That depends on how the software was installed. You can ...As for disabling the anti-virus, yes we tried that and it seemed to have worked. Now I think it just freezes less often than before, but still does. I should probably delete it... I only know how to use thefunction, is there a cleaner way to fully un-install a package? I have a feeling there may be a more proper way.Code:rm -r
if you installed using a package manager. If installing from source, you maybe able toCode:sudo apt-get remove <package_name>
or delete the files.Code:sudo make uninstall
How did you install the anti virus software and how did you disable the anti-virus software ?
I can see nothing in the logs that suggest the problem.---------------------------------
As for looking through the log, I'm still a little lost but these are the kinds of reoccurring messages that appear that look a little sketchy:

^although I think the above may be fine, not sure. This message only appeared once in this log, unlike the syslog error messages and their re-occurrence many times over.
Thanks for the suggestions! Any of these messages look like something?
