A lot of reasons. for example, License issues.

And the hardware compatibility? I know that *bsd hardware support is worse than linux and for desktop use it's no good.

EDIT: speaking quite frankly, a user like me that cannot read the source code could suspect that OSes like your include some rootkit/malware/spyware (like this, read the forum discussions). And in the interview you claim to make changes to the kernel but keeping them secret: that's why the changes to BSD, because linux license force you to publish all the changes you made.
Probably I'm wrong, but that's what I think (and probably other users too).
