Someone got their knickers in a twist because I accidentally posted this problem twice, and closed the thread. (I would delete the posts, if I knew how.) But the problem remains if anyone would like to take a crack at it.
I have a ten-year-old Dell laptop I'm trying to keep running. It is original except for added memory. It has been working pretty well with Xubuntu 11.04 but for some reason it decided to quit booting. I tried to boot with the original disk but no go. Finally, I got it to boot to a Puppy Linux disk but Puppy wouldn't install on the hard drive and I still don't know why. If I thought it was just the drive I would get a new, bigger one but I don't want to spring for that if it is something else that I might not be able to fix. Can/would anyone tell me know to diagnose the problem? Or should I just retire the Dell for good?
