Google Chrome has a lot of processes?

After I start Google Chrome and have 8 tabs open, I have 21 running processes that has chrome as name.
Is this correct and if so, why all these processes?

    Regards,

I am using Xubuntu 13.04 and there is no apparent reasons except for I have always used Google Chrome.. (A)
But you are saying that using Chromium gives me a better experience?

chrome works the same as chromium. there is nothing wrong with chrome.
no problem with so many processes, but if you ever experience "chrome does't read your profile correctly", you need to stop that processes by hand.

Since nobody seems to be able to give you a straight answer (except for the lengthy blog post vasa linked to),

basically, no there is nothing wrong with your Chrome browser, that is just how chrome works. Chrome treats each Webpage/Plugin/etc as a seperate process, so yes you are bound to see multiple Chrome processes per browser.
Chrome has its own task manager which you can open to see what each of the 21-processes are doing, I dont have chrome installed right now but i believe it is something like right click on the title bar and select the Task Manager option.

Shift+Escape will open the Task Manager. Or one can click on Menu (≡), Tools, Task Manager.
