Control-Shift-Printscreen copies the selected area to the clipboard, so you can "Paste" or Control-V it into a document.

If you just want a savable screenshot, press the Printscreen key and you'll be asked where you want to save it to.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

On my laptop Alt+Fn+PrtSc captures the current window.
Fn+PrtSc captures the whole screen, both methods ask where you want to save it.

Printscreen or prt scrn should work fine for anybody.

Alternatively is to open the screenshot program itself.
    gnome-screenshot.

In Ubuntu Studio Accessories-->Screenshot works fine, also gives an option to save or discard... saves in Picture Folder....

    That should do the trick...
