    13.04 update 14 Jun - wireless gone

Upgraded to 13.04 recently, with minimal problems. Today (Friday, 14, June) I clicked the notification button to update software. Now the wireless connection has disappeared. Any thoughts on how to recover it?

Re: 13.04 update 14 Jun - wireless gone

Obviously, the wrong driver is loaded, iwlwifi for Intel cards. Blacklist it and install the missing firmware for the native driver of your Broadcom device:
    Code:
echo "blacklist iwlwifi" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
    wget media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/forum/attachments/56/18/5007272-Broadcom_Firmware_070513.tar.gz
    sudo tar xvf 5007272-Broadcom_Firmware_070513.tar.gz -C /lib/firmware
Try to load the driver by hand:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -rfv iwlwifi
    sudo modprobe -v bcma
    sudo modprobe -v brcmsmac
    Check the black- and whitelists:
    Code:
    egrep 'bcma|brcm' /etc/modprobe.d/*
    cat /etc/modules

Re: 13.04 update 14 Jun - wireless gone

The wireless is back to its old self.

    Code:
    egrep 'bcma|brcd' /etc/modprobe.d/*
    /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf:blacklist bcma
    Code:
    cat /etc/modules
    # /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
    #
    # This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
    # at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.

    loop
    lp
    rtc
I shall reboot and return if there are any further questions. Thanks very much for your prompt and very helpful response.

    Here it is:

    Code:
    egrep 'bcma|brcm' /etc/modprobe.d/*
    /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf:blacklist brcm80211
    /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf:blacklist brcmfmac
    /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf:blacklist brcmsmac
    /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf:blacklist bcma

Re: 13.04 update 14 Jun - wireless gone

    Ok,

you can safely remove that file:

    Code:
    sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf
Otherwise the drivers are not loaded at boot-up.
