    Lenovo s205 ubuntu 13.04

    Hi! To start with: I am a complete newbie to Linux and Ubuntu, so please bear with me if I don or say anything stupid.

    My problem is: I have upgraded ubuntu 12.10 to ubuntu 13.04. Before that I have used 12.10 with wubi and have then migrated it to a partition with the help of a script. Now 13.04 is up and running with one exception:
    The wifi connection doesn't work. It doesn't show my wifi network and I can't enable wifi connections. I have tried many things which I have found here in the forum especially in that thread:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2143840

    But either I don't get what they mean or it doesn't work for me. To give you as much information as possible I have just entered the same in terminal as the (at least to me) more experienced user in that thread. So I hope it gives you a good overview over the status of my failing wifi connection.

    It seems to me, that i don't have the same problem as the one which is described in the quoted thread. Especially the entry I get under >>iwconfig is different
    and worries me... Is there anyone who can help? Thank you very much in advance!

    Try to load the driver by hand:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -v ath9k

    Unload the following module:
    Code:
    sudo rmmod acer_wmi
    Load the driver again:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -v ath9k

    Re: Lenovo s205 ubuntu 13.04

    I have done this and it gives me the following code:

    sudo rmmod acer_wmi

    No Code at all. I enter my password and then just a new line to enter a command pops up.

    sudo modprobe -v ath9k
    Code:
    insmod /lib/modules/3.8.0-23-generic/kernel/net/wireless/cfg80211.ko
    insmod /lib/modules/3.8.0-23-generic/kernel/net/mac80211/mac80211.ko
    insmod /lib/modules/3.8.0-23-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath.ko
    insmod /lib/modules/3.8.0-23-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/ath9k_hw.ko
    insmod /lib/modules/3.8.0-23-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/ath9k_common.ko
    insmod /lib/modules/3.8.0-23-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/ath9k.ko

    Do you think it would be worth considering downgrading to Ubuntu 12.04? Or is it likely that I will have the same problem there? Or is it too early to give up?
    Thanks again for your help!

    Re: Lenovo s205 ubuntu 13.04

    Try to reset the BIOS settings to default. Please also show:

    Code:
    cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
    cat /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state
    cat /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

    Re: Lenovo s205 ubuntu 13.04

    I have reset the BIOS to default. Still there is no wifi connection mentioned in the network drop-down menu.

    Here is the code for:

    cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

    Code:
    # PCI device 0x10ec:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:15.0/0000:02:00.0 (r8169)
    SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="f0:de:f1:d1:68:8b", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0"

    # PCI device 0x168c:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:15.2/0000:03:00.0 (ath9k)
    SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="9c:b7:0d:8b:1c:c0", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="wlan*", NAME="wlan0"

    cat /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state

    Code:
    [main]
    NetworkingEnabled=true
    WirelessEnabled=true
    WWANEnabled=true
    WimaxEnabled=true

    cat /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

    Code:
    [main]
    plugins=ifupdown,keyfile
    dns=dnsmasq

    [ifupdown]
    managed=false

    Re: Lenovo s205 ubuntu 13.04

    Is there a possibility to activate wireless in the BIOS settings? Maybe the boot-system needs to be changed to 1) wireless and 2) OS?!
