Is Unity available in any way upstream for Debian?
If I follow correctly... Ubuntu Unity 13.10 - developing would be the closest to Unity Upstream. Looking even farther Upstream, would be Gnome 3 in Rawhide - on Fedora. Though it is unclear how intertwined Unity and Gnome 3 will be pushing forward - as Ubuntu works on MIR and other components that are not in Gnome 3.
Unity 12.04LTS is basically Debian 7 with Unity. Again though, it will be interesting the DE that Debian focusses on, as Gnome 3 is tightly integrated with RHEL - Gnome 3 may not be a good fit for Debian 8.
Ok. I'll look around. I'm not seeing anything in the Wheezy (7.0) repositories however.
The only distro that I know of that has Unity available apart from Ubuntu is Arch.

Unity is open source so what you are looking for is not impossible. It all depends on someone doing the work. Here is the Unity Launchpad page it has a link to a download of Unity 7 tar ball. Could you not use that and install it on Debian?

I do not know Debian but this might be a stumbling bloack
Does Debian use Compiz?Unity consists of a Compiz plugin based visual interface only, which is heavily dependent on OpenGL.

It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

It's not a Debian problem but if you read following bug report (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=609278) you get a clue where the problem starts.
