I still like the old interface and just got it going on a thumbdrive with a 9.10 human-theme look. Exactly how I like it.
When, may I ask, will the backport repositories expire? About how much GB or TB of data to they retain?

Unsupported Releases repositories are not removed, just stored elsewhere.

I think backports go to the old release archives when the server edition hits end of life in a little under two years.
However, I don't think all the packages in backports actually get updates, only server packages.

Don't mind me, I'm only passing through.
Once in a blue moon, I'm actually helpful.
Suppose in five years I dig up a 10.04LTS disc and point it to the backports then I can still do sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get update?
I actually have 9.10 on a P3 900MHz computer, I was wondering about putting some packages on it...just have to point it to the old releases?
Yes, that will generally work. The backports are just additional repositories with slightly newer packages than what the base distro shipped with. You will generally have problems compiling newer versions of popular packages because the frameworks that many packages rely on have changed.
