Cool Discourse, a new type of Forum

Jorge Castro has create another Ubuntu Forum running on Discourse. He asked if we could use the U+1 sub-forum there, to see if we can break it. You can access the forum by entering the following URL:

    http://test.ubuntu-discourse.org/

The U+1 sub-forum is located here.

Keep in mind that this is pre-beta software, so if you run into any bugs, post them in the Feedback sub-forum.

I hope to see some of you there, and remember to have fun.

We can break anything! Putting it back together is the challenging part...

We have resident developers over there, although when we break something it does take them a bit of time to put things right again, but it's usually the same day.

Use the address in post #1 rather than the IP address unless something has changed today.

Bear in mind that this is a sandbox - anything could at anytime disappear from there.

    For ever.

Very interesting! I do like the idea of it being open source.

So, is the idea to transition Ubuntuforums.org over to this software?
AND to obsolete this venue, seems so to me...

As with any change there is going to be considerable discomfort and blowback.
    I guess time will tell!

This place has become such a "second home" for me I am just unsure of my feelings at this point.
If the friendliness of this place and the community spirit maintained then maybe it would be a good thing.
It is just going to be a big change, for now I will reserve judgment, and go with the flow.

    We shall see...

    Fall in the Sea,
    Eventually!

Honestly, I don't think we need yet another Ubuntu forum. However, if the idea is to eventually transition to the new platform, I don't have a problem with that.

From Joge's blog I get that the idea is more than simply changing the code base of the forum but it is to bring together all the separate strands of communication that there is in Ubuntu.

Think about it for a second. Why do we plaster things like Ubuntu developers do not usually read the forums everywhere? What does that say about us as a project?
And yet you’ll find plenty of Ubuntu developers on the subreddit, and you’ll find them on Disqus and Google Plus. It’s pretty much unacceptable to me that there is a rift between what is supposed to be a unified community.
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

Unfragmenting a knowledge base is a huge challenge. I tried several times with some other companies and it only proved futile. Hmmm... , maybe we can make a diference with Ubuntu?
