You have installed an extra module in the kernel. Haven't you ? If not, then maybe you also affected by another bug. Is not confirmed yet, but read here => https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...l/+bug/1184095

Try first to remove the module and then install the kernel..
    Code:
    sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source
. This is only in order to install the latest mainline correctly and check if graphics card problem solved. Then you can install again the bcmwl-kernel-source package.

You are absolutely right, I did have an extra module installed. However the kernel was updatet even though I got the error, so I never got to try and remove it.

When the kernel was updated to 3.9, the laptop booted without errors (!)

The suspend-crash was still an issue.

And most importantly, the proprietary drivers ubuntu got for my wireless card (the bcmwl module) stopped working. Leaving me without internet. So I simply installed 12.04 and left it all behind.

    Everything works fine now.

Well, this is not exactly a solution of your problem but, LTS rocks !!

I think you can mark the thread as solved then. (see my signature).

Like you said it's not really a solution, so marking it as solved might be somewhat misleading. "Just install 12.04 in stead"

Anyways your an admin so sure I'll do what you say, but I can't find the 'mark as solved' option in the Thread tools ??
I have the 3 top alternatives that you have in your signature photo, but not the other two. weird.
It was there before, I have marked several other threads on this site as solved.
