    Re: Jammin' June Screenshot Thread

The little puppy following is... well... Puppy Linux:

On an HP XE400. This little beauty is a laptop I rescued from Electronic Recycling. I wiped an XP install that wouldn't even start. It boasts a sizzling 232 MB of RAM and a whopping 18G hard drive. This version of Puppy is based on Precise and is a non-PAE version called Puppy_Retro. It loads into RAM in about 20 seconds. And everything works perfectly. Even the battery works. I'm replacing my docked Ipod with this free beauty. I have it connected to my stereo and load Radiotray. I got fed up with Apple's endless fussiness and elitism. I couldn't play this. I couldn't play that. "Sorry, won't play flash. Server isn't blah, blah, blah... Oh? Is that Windows Media? FLAC? OGG? Sorry, can't play those. They aren't good enough for Apple..." The larger images are here and here.

And now? With my Puppy? I can play it all.

Who'd have thought a throw away from trash recycling could be more versatile and useful than a modern day Apple product?

    I. Love. Linux.

    Sweet!

I'm using Puppy on my Windows ME Era doorstop computer - Celeron CPU, 192MB RAM, 5GB HD.

Works like a champ! Matter of fact, it was the only modern distro I could find that would boot. LoL!

The drop down terminal is Xfce Terminal. I used the "xfce4-terminal --drop-down" command to launch it as a Guake style terminal.
very nice, run xfce on an old netbook, havent played around with it much but you have inspired me.

I had to go back to Windows 7 Pro.. I still have Ubuntu Mini 12.04 in a VM.

Dual Booting is a PIA for me... Hopefully you'll allow me to return to the forums after this post. I don't want to complain. I do still love Linux in general. I just can't run it on the main's anymore. I need all the horsepower I can for Autodesk. That program is mammoth.

As a olive branch though.. I wish to say that I'm running as a Standard User in Win7 using Google Chrome as a sandboxed process(es) via Sandboxie. At least SOME of my linux knowledge transferred.

Oh yeah, I went to install LibreOffice so I fired up CMD.exe and stupidly typed sudo apt-get install libreoffice.

Fedora 19 w/ Gnome 3.8 and Shell... Loving the 'modern' UI more and more, Gnome shell is easily my favourite DE these days. Integrates so nicely with Email, Calendar, so much more.
