I don't want to use security, passwords or remote access.
2 pc's xp pro + Ubuntu 1 pc win7.
Must be a simple way to do this but I can;t find one.
Any help appreciated.

Connecting them all to a router with DHCP will do it. Thus creating your own personal network.
Thanks for quick response scbingham. Would it best in Ubuntu or windows.
Could you tell me howto setup DHCP
The majority of routers usually have DHCP enabled by default, so there's nothing to set up, except the name/SSID of your network. The router will allocate an ip address to each device that is connected to it.
What exactly are you trying to achieve?
Edit: In fact, you don't even have to set the SSID or any security for wired devices, as that's only used for wireless (wi-fi)

I'm begining to wonder that myself !
I want to freely use filles from pc to pc.
Like 2 shortcuts on each pc's desktop to the other 2.
Sounds like you need to do some searching for tutorials regarding network shares & file sharing.
The physical side of it is the easy part; 3 ethernet cables & a router.
