    Ubuntu 11.10?

Can Ubuntu 11.10 still run on the computer even if the support life has ended? I'm running it on my dell laptop although it sent me a message that I should upgrade and if I don't upgrade will I get problems in the future?

It will run, but you will be putting yourself at risk. There are no more security updates for that edition so any security holes that exist will be there forever. Bugs will not be fixed and some programs that work fine in more recent versions of Ubuntu will not run properly. I would suggest updating to a supported version like 12.10 or 13.04.

I'd recommend 12.04 over 12.10 or 13.04 because 12.04 is supported until April 2017, whereas 12.10 is only supported until April 2014, and 13.04 is only supported until January 2014:

This and the fact that LTS releases are intended to be stable for production machines and servers. If you want reliability and long support, 12.04 LTS it is. Create a partition or two for playthings like the interim releases. Cheers and good luck.

PS: Yes, as in a previous post, you are running a security risk which will only get worse in the future if 11.10 machine is online.

They always end in '.04' and are on the even years, i.e. 12.04, 14.04, 16.04, etc. At least for the moment.
