    Forgotten password

    1. I bought a computer with ubuntu on it but have not got the password
    2. I have a Ubuntu disc (which I bought a couple of yeas ago) but have forgotten/can't find Authentication password
    3. Maybe the simplest thing to do is to download a new copy of Ubuntu
What is the best thing to do?

Re: 3 options. What to do

Is Ubuntu the only OS? What kind of computer is it? May just be better off doing a fresh install instead of dealing with someone's old install.

You can try resetting the password from recovery mode.

If you decide to do a new clean install, I would use 12.04 LTS because it's a LTS version. But if you prefer you can use a more recent version. I wouldn't use a version few years old unless it's the LTS.
