Sony Vaio: Fan suddenly spinning very fast

    Hi everybody,
every now and then my laptop fan starts spinning very fast even if the system load is very low, it spins way faster then it does when the load is heavy or the room temperature is high. Maybe it's related to the kernel version I use and so it comes and goes as the kernel gets updated. Even with the same kernel though It doesn't happen regularly so I can't connect it to a specific kernel version. It happened today and the kernel I'm using now is 3.8.0-21-generic but it's been happening now and then during the last couple years.

    Any idea about this problem?

I can't answer that. Don't know much about Sony, but now others have some information to begin with.
