Back to Linux after a very long time...

I just wanted to say that after close to a year of being away from Linux and using Windows 8 through it's development stages and eventually months after it's retail release, I've decided to dive back into the wonderful world of Xubuntu.

I'm currently running solo Xubuntu 12.04.2, as with Xubuntu 13.04 I was stricken with that soft lockup bug that refused to let me boot.

    So hi again.

Welcome back to the wonderful world of Xubuntu 12.04!

I was an avid gnome 2 lover so kept 10.04 going until a few weeks ago. I then got a new machine and assumed that unity, which I had not been able to run properly on the old computer, would become my DE of choice, but after trying it for some time, I just had to throw in the towel. I installed Xubuntu 12.04 on my machine and, "WOW" describes it best; fast, attractive to look at, a delight to use, highly configurable, and now most definitely my DE of choice.

    Welcome back.
XFCE is great, but I really feel you need to try Crunchbang.

    Welcome back
Although I've been a Gnome fan since moving from old Fedora years ago to Ubuntu (I could easily switch between Gnome and Kde back then just by selecting when logging on) I'm primarily glad you dropped Windows 8. I've talked to several friends who consider dropping Windows 8 due to the hopeless UI.
