    Was able to install Chrome beta. It did get this message:

    Unpacking google-chrome-beta (from google-chrome-beta_current_amd64.deb) ...
    dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of google-chrome-beta:
    google-chrome-beta depends on libgconf2-4 (>= 2.27.0); however:
    Package libgconf2-4 is not installed.
    google-chrome-beta depends on libxss1; however:
    Package libxss1 is not installed.

    Did an apt-get -f install and it worked.
    google-chrome-beta_current_amd64.deb

    https://www.google.com/chrome/intl/e...beta_amd64_deb
    Ran O.K. from saucy updated 19 May.

    About the only reason I'm looking at Chrome is it is the only thing that works on my Chromebook. I prefer Google-chrome on my Nook HD+ to the Android browser whatever that is. I run ubuntu development U+1 Firefox mostly plus some tablet and chromebook just to see what's going on elsewhere.

    I'm writing this from Chromium 29.0.1512.0 (Developer Build 200992)

    EDIT

    BTW, I finally nailed-down my .desktop file. I must have tried a dozen different combinations.

    FILENAME: chromium-canary.desktop
    LOCATION(s): ~/.local/share/applications & /usr/share/applications

    Code:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Type=Application
    Name=Chromium Canary Browser
    Name[en_US]=Chromium Canary Browser
    Icon=chromium-browser
    Exec=/home/vindsl/.chrome-linux/chrome --memory-model=low --user-data-dir=/home/vindsl/.config/chromium-canary %u
    Comment[en_US]=
    StartupNotify=true
    This keeps everything separate from my PPA install. Makes upgrading Canary stupid-simple...

    My nook hd+ came with Google Chrome (not chromium) and my Acer C7 Chromebook came with Google Chrome (not chromium) so I installed Google Chrome Beta on saucy on my amd64 15" notebook (not Chromium). Haven't tried anything unusual just email Yahoo, AOL, Gaim plus news and news videos. Eons ago I had tried chromium and at that time on unstable development ubuntu chromium didn't do all that well so I haven't tried it since. If google chrome is on my other devices then the version I'd use is google chrome because of similarity of controls and setup. So far Firefox is running fine on saucy.

    I started with Firefox, toyed with Opera and liked the features but hated the fragility, then moved to Chrome and was a happy camper. Problem was every Chrome update pounded on my download limit and then I found that Chromium was available through normal repos via an unmetered site. Happy camper. I stick with whatever holds my attention for more than 10 minutes. Oooh look, a butterfly

    I have always installed Chrome and purged Firefox and never looked back...until now. It all started on Ubuntu 13.04. The OS would constantly freeze. Thinking it was kernel or nouveau related. Then it started on Precise and the only common denominator was Chrome. So on a hunch I installed Chromium. Works just as well as Chrome ever did. The only noticeable difference is the blue icon. Problem solved. No more freezing.

    I don't depend on or use any add-ons, but with Chromium I needed flash installed. other than that not much difference for me.

    Chrome was probably "phoning home"...

    I make some attempt to turn off all the places where ubuntu, firefox, chrome, etc report back to the mother ship except for crashes. That's getting to be a challenge on my chromebook to stay out of the cloud. Despite all the claims to the contrary all thiat syncing & cloud stuff is in my opinion data mining for targeted marketing. The Cloud must be an absolute delight for hackers.
