BTW, I used the time command:

    Code:
    time firefox
    and

    Code:
    time chromium-browser
@carib00907, please could you explain how you then close the browser? Do you do it manually? Can it be made part of the command to eliminate the manual step?

Looks quite logical to me. I mean, after so many utterly wrong decisions, why not make another one?

    Atta boy!

Store all your data on the_cloud yet?!?!?

    That'll complete the circle...

But, wait. You're talking about Canonical, not the users, yes?

Nice! I gotta remember that command...

My four browsers - slowest to quickest (real) load times:

    #2 - Chromium 27.0.1453.6 (Developer Build 191032)
    Code:
    vindsl@Zuul:~$ time chromium-browser

    real	0m6.200s

    sys	0m0.628s
    #1 - Chromium Canary 29.0.1512.0 (Developer Build 200992)

Re: Chromium Likely to Replace Firefox

Yes this is exactly what i was talking about in OP. The switch has potential to become really bad PR stunt on top of latest activities that dented Ubuntu reputation a bit and this is like adding fuel to it.

Let Dash privacy issues settle and make Mir work and then if it makes sense start discussion what would be the best default browser. It currently doesn't make any sense to start this discussion? No way Chromium is prefered browser over Firefox for majority of users and i doubt it will be soon. Maybe Chrome and not Chromium browser.

Lately i get the feeling like Ubuntu tries to sole handedly kill it's reputation and i always thought Firefox and Ubuntu are great pair and now it's like Ubuntu wants to distance itself from this to become exactly what? FOSS project rejected by FOSS community? What the ...?

Do Mir the right way and add best possible answers/solutions about Dash and privacy issues in the next year or two... why would you add Mozilla vs. Google... stunts in the discussion ATM and think this can end OK?

Re: Chromium Likely to Replace Firefox

I was reading this blog by Rick Spencer (he who proposed Ubuntu become a rolling release) and I wonder if this stupid proposal is detracting us from what is important.

    http://theravingrick.blogspot.co.uk/...l-to-have.html

Ubuntu touch on his Nexus phone now makes phone calls, and can surf the web using both WiFI and 3g data. I wonder what browser is being used? Firefox? Chromium? Or some Android app or a Ubuntu app developed for Ubuntu Touch? This proposal for changing the default browser may become irrelevant by next year.

Now, the really important discussion was on making it easy to turn the development branch into a rolling development branch. A side issue was the likely name for this branch; TIP, Next, Rolling. Mark prefers Raring, even now. I see that as a strong hint that 13.10 may be the last interim release.

Another discussion of special interest for Ubuntu+1 participants was the one about getting Unity 8 running on MIR on the desktop for 13.10. These things are much more important for Ubuntu+1 than this present subject which I see as FUD.

It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

I don't know about irrelevance part. I think selection will play a role on Ubuntu Touch too. For example i hope FF (mobile not Android version) will at least run on Ubuntu mobile devices and to be optimized for it and to be competitive like it's on the desktop. But i don't know if it will become default that is true but if it will work OK i do imagine it will work better or at least on pair with "home backed" solutions or plain Chromium because it will probably be more feature rich. This is where Mozilla should make an extra effort that is probably true.

Re: Chromium Likely to Replace Firefox

Firefox is by far the most easiest convinient and better browser there is,far superior than Chrome or Chromium even IE and Safari
There is no browser that supports or has as many Add-ons or Plugins as Firefox has.
My 2 cents. Firefox and Thunderbird till I die.....
Rock On Ubu don't let ppl fool you!!!
