Did you do sudo apt-get update before you ran the install?
    $> cd /pub
    $> more beer

    Re: Skype on Ubuntu 13.04?

I've just done a check on my system which is 64 bit 13.04

    Code:
    apt-rdepends skype
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    skype
      Depends: skype-bin
    skype-bin
    and

    Code:
    apt-cache policy ia32-libs
    ia32-libs:
      Installed: (none)
      Candidate: 20090808ubuntu36
      Version table:
         20090808ubuntu36 0
            500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/universe amd64 Packages
And attached pic of skype running. All I did was install skype from synaptic. Which pulls in skype-bin:i386

Try doing an "sudo apt-get update" first. If that doesn't work, then try changing the mirror in Software Sources to another location, then "sudo apt-get update" again. I was having the same problem and it solved it for me.

Thanks for the info, I've changed the mirror, try to download missing libs, reinstall and install different tools to build unmet dependencies, etc. and ended with complete system re-installation, since I fuc... somehow during the process of getting skype, , so I had to do it. Now I'm awaiting fro someone to solve this issue, or simply stop using skype with this computer...

Try downloading and installing Skype from the official website. Then you don't need to deal with repositories or even the terminal at all. Choose 12.04 (I have 13.04 and the 12.04 works on mine; there is no 13.04 version) and when it gives you the option to save or open, open with GDebi Package Installer (or a equivalent).

If you already have Skype installed but not working, make sure to remove the existing installation first with
    Code:
    sudo apt-get remove --purge skype
