    Low WiFi connectivity

I dual-boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu 13.04 on my laptop. My WiFi router is two rooms away from my bedroom. When I am using Windows 8, I can access the Internet just fine in my bedroom, but when I use Ubuntu, I'm connected but get no Internet, and it keeps asking me for the password. However, if I move closer to the router, I can access the WiFi. I am a beginner, so any instructions sill have to be step-by-step or simple. I have a Ralink rt3290 WiFi adapter.

    Re: Low WiFi connectivity

I'm not certain but suspect that RT5370 USB and RT5390 PCI share similar if not identical circuitry. I have an RT5370 adapter. It works 'out of the box' but signal strength and connection speed are weak compared to other adapters. The RT5370 signal strength under Windows 7 is better (though still not as good as other adapters) so in part is appears to be non-optimized open drivers. I didn't try the procedure in praseodym's link, that may fix the connection problem.
