Can I get a codec for mp3 streaming in the radio of the rythmbox ?
But I now have a good PC, tried to install 12.0 LTS but had an input/output error .
So I still run under ubuntu 9.04

Do you have the package ubuntu-restricted-extra installed? It should cover most of the needed codecs.
No, I have ubuntu 9.04 on CD-ROM only, no HDD

Ubuntu 9.04 is not supported anymore. Better if you get the latest (ubuntu 13.04) or the LTS version (ubuntu 12.04).
If you have a USB with around 2GB you can run it live or install it on you computer (possible for dual boot if needed). Then via Ubuntu Software Center install Ubuntu Restricted Extra.

You can install ubuntu restricted extras on a live session...of course, you would lose it if you re-boot your computer...but the, it only takes 5 minutes to install it from the software center...anyway, you should install a more current version of ubuntu like 13.04....9.04 is very "ancient" now...
I guess that I will not be able to solve this, because most replies mention so, so I consider this thread closed : How do you 'end' a thread ?
You are pretty much really out of chance here, first you need to install ubuntu on your hard drive and recieve updates. once you recieve updates i think the codec would be included in the update..
Update is the primary solution of all..
