    Additional Apps

Running Lubuntu 13.04 from a USB drive. Downloaded firefox from the list of available apps. Download went to completion and an update was launched but cannot find this browser in the list of apps. Guidance sought.

Did you add persistence to your usb? If not everything will be lost after reboot.

Did you install Lubuntu to an USB drive or did you 'burn' an iso to it and run it as a live system?

Impavidus... Much thanks for your support. Used the PenDrive universal installer to make the ISO file and launched lubuntu on the same USB drive. Lubuntu 13.04 runs but updates fail. installed updates show that firefox is present but I see nothing in my apps. Much appreciation as I await your reply.

    Re: Additional Apps

I've never used Lubuntu myself so I don't know its menus, but you should at least be able to run firefox (after installation of course, I don't know if it's there by default in Lubuntu, I thought is was but maybe not) by giving the command firefox.

But this is a live system. Did you add persistence to your usb? Also read this if you hadn't done so already: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD

Regrettably I did not see specific guidance for USB persistence.... only CD. Can one make a working USB installation persistent? Please advise

    Re: Additional Apps

This site explains the universal usb installer. At step 4 in the first screenshot you can see a slider for the size of the persistent file. Persistence only works for USBs, not for cd or dvd.

But this is for creating live disks. A live disk is not a full install. It can be used for fixing your system if broken, testing your hardware and installing.

    Re: Additional Apps

To get what you want, you have to install to a USB as if it were another hard drive or computer. This has been done with Lubuntu. See this thread
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1872303
It is an old thread but I believe that the principle is the same.
