Aye, HL2 is downloading now! On my Acer C7 Chromebook, running Chrubuntu, which DOES run Half-Life 1, and Portal. So, we'll see...
Edit: Great googlymoogly! It runs on this little $200 wonder, due to the magic of Steam and Ubuntu!

in other news, this is awesome! still waiting for portal2 though
Personally waiting on CS:GO, but I'm surprised how much they released this week. For all we know, Portal 2 & CS:GO could be out within the next week

Hell yes! Now if only they released Source SDK 2007 for Linux so that I could play Black Mesa.
Just installed the Half Life 2 beta on this laptop running openSUSE and Steam. Okay, it's not Ubuntu, but I'm finding it very choppy and slow. It's not a great spec, but I would have thought it enough for this game, with a dual core AMD A6 2.7Mhz, 6Gb RAM, and a Radeon 750G with the proprietary Catalyst driver.
Any ideas? Other than sod off to the openSUSE forums.

Fixed it. I just rebooted and it's fine now. Very nice! Lovely to have this classic title on Linux.
Am now sodding off for a quick game.
