I'm guessing that means you're using the generic VESA driver on Windows. You can do the same thing on Ubuntu by creating an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:
Code:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "vesa"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
Note that Unity probably won't run well with the VESA driver, since your CPU will now be used to do all the graphics acceleration. You might want to check out alternate desktop environments (xfce) that don't require acceleration.
