13.04 installation problem on iMac 9,1 EFI live usb won't boot

    Hello,

There's a lot of information out there on installing/booting Ubuntu on Intel Macs using a variety of tools: rEFIt, rEFInd, unetbootin, ISO-2-USB EFI-Booter, etc. I've tried a number of methods but I always get stuck at the same point. My 13.04 AMD64 Mac live USB thumb drive will not boot. My computer freezes at the following screen:

    Code:
Welcome to the << Ubuntu ISO - EFI Booter >> (vers. 0.01 beta)

    Loading Linux...
    done

    Loading RAMdisk...
    done

OK, fasten your seat belts now, we are booting the kernel.
This may take a while, please be patient...

I also get some graphical artifacts in the form of two purple squares in the top left of the screen. Has anyone here found a bullet proof way to boot from a 13.04 Ubuntu live USB drive on a Mac?

My solution: walk to store and buy blank DVD then burn the Ubuntu ISO with Disk Utility. It's a shame that in 2013 it's still hard to boot from a USB port.
