My resolution is stuck on my desktop background help.

Hello, recently I purchased an HDMI cable for my Asus netbook. When I plugged it into the TV, I had two problems:

    1. The sound didn't work on the TV, but picture did.
    2. While the picture worked, the resolution was not matched up perfectly. I couldn't see the launcher. So I started to play with the resolution hoping to match my netbook screen to the TV when suddenly the resolution was overly zoomed in.

Now that the resolution is so zoomed in, can't see anything except for my desktop background. The launcher & date and time are gone. I've tried turning off my computer and turning it back on, logging in and out, hitting ctrl alt delete, but nothing works. My computer is literally stuck at the desktop background.

So my question is: How can I restore my resolution to normal when I can't see or click anything?

Can you get to a virtual console by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1? If yes, try to reboot the machine from there.
