Because at least one user has reported that for him the brcmsmac was performing better. But it can be different for different people.
It is holding after reboot. Guess we'll have to see what happens with the next kernel update.

Any output that would be helpful to you?

Another quick question - is 72 mbps the max connection speed for this wireless adapter?

    That's a good news.

With a new kernel update, either you'll get a fixed driver (by accepting suggestion from the "Additional Drivers" program to install the proprietary driver), or will have to compile it again (cd <to the directory> --> make --> complete step 8 once). Blacklisting the native drivers or adding "wl" to "/etc/modules" file won't be needed again. (in fact, you'll have to Undo these two things if you wish to try the native drivers again).

The adapter itself is 'b/g/n' type, so it *should* support N-channel speed that is upto 150 or 300 Mbps. However, I am not sure about whether the wl driver will support that much speed or not. It can be limited due to the incapability of the driver, or the router or its settings.

To see the speeds supported by your router, please post -
    Code:
    sudo iwlist scan
With my very limited knowledge about wireless channels and router support for related speeds, I think anything above 54Mbps means there IS support for N-channel. If so, we should expect upto 150 or even 300 Mbps speed.

    hi, is this your router?

    ESSID:"Cisco47799"

if yes, then log into it
    and change it to wpa2-aes
    wpa2-psk anything but TKIP
    thanks.

I am not sure where that TKIP setting comes from because I have security set up as WPA2/WPA mixed mode

    Its from the router.
rummage around in the router, you'll find it.

Just rummaged through every setting and I don't see that as an option anywhere.

    Wah...??
That 'mixed mode' thing is 'Strongly' discouraged with Linux. Set it to WPA2-PSK only.

To be honest, I only know about wireless routers as much as I have read on these forums. I don't personally have a wireless router or a wireless network available to do experiments myself (one of the things I miss the most.. ). In fact I don't even understand most part of the 'iwlist scan' command output. So.. Hadaka is a much better help on that one (seems to have first hand experience with these).

As for navigating the encryption settings, search the net for "xxxxxx user manual", where "xxxxxx.." is the exact model of your router. Or give us its link (or model no.), may be we could look it up for you if it is hidden below some huge pile of text.

Seems stable each time until there is an update that requires a reboot, then I have to reapply VSF. Quick question, since I am using this driver, how would I know that an update fixed my wireless issue, since the Broadcom driver is blacklisted?
