Is going virtual right for me?

I've got a home server (ubuntu oldest LTS still supported) that I host some websites on and stream home media throughout my house. I am often upgrading my equipment and swapping out harddrives. Does it make sense for me to just run my server through virtualbox or something so I can back up the actual OS bits easier? I keep my OS hdd separate so I wouldn't need to backup all of my other storage.

Well, virtualization is the wave of the future. It makes sense to have things in Virtualbox, since it's easier to work with--- like you said.
Don't look back, You're not going in that direction.
