    Xubuntu 13.04 install problem

Burned ISO to a DVD and installed on 2 different machines with no problems. Then, tried it on this machine (currently running 12.04) and I get to the point where the map should come up showing my time zone and I jus get a gray or staticy screen. I am trying to install the 16 bit system and this machine is a 2.5 64 bit, 3 gig ram, 1 gig Nvidia card. I believe I have seen posts before about "nomodest" or something like that. How do I get to where I can type that in and what exactly is the command?

    Thnaks in advance.
