    Conky Transparency issues

I have found and programmed 2 different conky config files and not one of them I am able to get the transparency to the background to work correctly. I have found
    Code:
    own_window_argb_visual yes
forces into transparency mode but this cause a problem with weather icons I use.

My Main conkyrc file I will like to use:
    Code:
    # Conky Google Now style #

    # Conky settings #
    background no
    update_interval 1
    double_buffer yes
    no_buffers yes

    # Window specifications #
    own_window yes
    own_window_class Conky
    own_window_transparent yes
    own_window_type normal
    own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
    own_window_title conly
    own_window_colour FFFFFF
    #own_window_argb_visual yes
    #own_window_argb_value 255

    minimum_size 250

    # Alignment #
    alignment tr
    gap_x 300
    gap_y 100

You'd probably be better off asking your question in the Conky thread.

    Re: Conky Transparency issues

    Here's what I use:

    Code:
    <SNIP>

    ####
    ## Create 'own_window' type. Makes Conky behave like other panels.
    #
    own_window yes
    own_window_transparent yes
    own_window_type normal
    own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
    ####
    ## Some distros require the following lines for true transparency.
    ## BOTH of these lines need to be Commented/Uncommented in tandem.
    #
    own_window_argb_visual yes
    own_window_argb_value 255

    <SNIP>

Works fine on multiple DEs. I'm using the above on Ubu 13.04 Unity / GS 3.8.1 / LXDE...

    Code:

I am not able to use this as it also makes my weather icons transparent as well.

    Code:
    ${execi 300 cp -f ~/web/$(grep "acm_RecentLocationsCarousel.push" ~/.cache/weather.xml | grep 305448 |grep -o "icon:'[^\']*'" | grep "'[^\']*'" | grep -o "[0-9][0-9]\-m.png") ~/.cache/weather.png}${image ~/.cache/weather.png -p 0,115 -s 90x60}
I am doing this on ubuntu 13.04 as well, using Unity. From what I have read up, it seams to be related to the way Ubuntu creates backgrounds.

Yep, true transparency means TRUE transparency.

You could probably make a separate semi-transparent conkyrc for the weather component and overlay it.

    Dunno, never tried it...

Personally, I prefer my icons to be transparent.

    Re: Conky Transparency issues

I have decided to add some screen shots related to this issue.
    Code:
    # Conky settings #
    background yes
    update_interval 1
    double_buffer yes
    no_buffers yes

    # Window specifications #
    own_window yes
    own_window_type normal
    own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
    own_window_title conky
    #own_window_colour FFFFFF
    own_window_transparent yes
    Selection_023.png

Now if I added the following line
    Code:
    own_window_argb_visual yes
    Selection_024.png

So as you can see the new line added, does make it transparent but the weather Icon also goes transparent which makes it look ugly.

    Re: Conky Transparency issues

The problem you are having is a known bug in Conky. I've reported this bug back in 2010 (see https://sourceforge.net/p/conky/bugs/317/), but unfortunately there has not been any reply from the developers.

    Re: Conky Transparency issues

I have found that when conky is added to my start menu it fixes the back ground image issue. However on reload or restart of conky it breaks.

Totally weard bug, could very well be related to the way ubuntu loads the background as well.

    Cannot reproduce it here. Sorry!

    Tried this yet?

If yes, and it didn't work, have you tried switching your weather icon set?

Some icon sets are more transparent than others -- some not transparent at all...
