    Internet problems

I'm running Xubuntu 13.04, (fresh install) but the problem started with 12.10 about 3 weeks ago. It says I'm connected, but web pages load very slowly, if at all. Firefox and Chrome both act the same way. Funny thing is, I've been using this laptop for 2 years without any issues in linux. Has always ran perfectly. It's a Dell Latitude E5520 with all Intel chipsets. I know Intel is very linux friendly and should work well.

Btw, I dual boot with windows and when I went into windows to check if there was any problems there, internet worked perfectly and fast. Are there any .config files I can delete and regenerate? Seems strange that all of a sudden internet is so spotty.

    Re: Internet problems

I just tried a live USB with Lubuntu 13.04 on it, and the problem still persists. Sometimes it is quick, other times it is very slow or can't load the page at all. Here is the output of lspci:

    Re: Internet problems

It seems that other people have had this problem too, using -

Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (rev 35)

I'm searching for an answer, but still no luck.

It seems your access point supports a maximum speed of 54Mbps ^^, so you don't need N-channel that your adapter supports (provides higher speeds, but is still buggy on Linux).

Accordingly, please try disabling N-Channel -
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -rfv iwlwifi
    sudo modprobe -v iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
It is a temporary change and will be lost at reboot. If it seems to help, we can make it permanent with -
    Code:
echo "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

Also test your DNS using dig. If slow, compare resolv.conf with Windows network settings.

Then forget the modprobe commands and go ahead directly with the third command that makes it a permanent setting. Reboot and see if it helps. If not, we can either leave the configuration file as a measure to reduce an extra point of doubt, or delete it if you wish, to restore the original setting.

    Re: Internet problems

It seems to be OK now. Not lightning fast, but decent. Thanks for your help and we'll see if this holds up.
