    Re: raring released?

I am still downloading - on a slow connection - and so haven't tried yet.

That said i had some problems with startup disk creator the other night - trying to create a 12.04 live USB to install on a family member's machine, while running 12.10. A bit of a search revealed this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...r/+bug/1068473

It seems a bit bizarre that this bug didn't get more attention.

    Try using unetbootin.

    Please report your findings.

    Re: raring released?

I downloaded again, and on a different pc got Start Up Disc creater to run correctly. However I am unablle to install. It just sits on the screen wgere you are advised that you need 5 Gb of free space etc and goes no further.

I suspect that the file linked to earlier in this thread is faulty.

I'm leaving it until 13.04 is announced as available.

I use an older version of Maveric Meerkat , 10.10 , to do all my SDC jobs. Since Precise there has been problems across several different form factors. Some machines it will work , others it will not. Depends.

    Re: raring released?

Just tried the live iso from usb. It's the official release, from kubuntu.org.

BTW ... I've read many posts here about unetbootin and how it's the best iso to usb program. It wouldn not accept my password. Odd?

Anyway, the video works well ... it's on a cedarview graphics machine, which is the main reason I want 13.04. The video was fine on the alpha 2 and beta versions I tried. The only change I had to make was adding the acpi_backlight=vendor parameter to the grub config file so the brightness adjustment worked. But too many other things didn't. Like the wireless.

Running from live usb, everything seems to work fine. Including the wireless. Yay.

I think I'll be doing a full install soon.
