    Newer versions of Firefox will read pdf files natively...

    Re: Acrobat

    OP talks about Acrobat PRO, so he is not looking for a reader.

    @OP,

    I don't know what you use for Acrobat Pro for, but editing can be done with xournal or Pdfedit (though I never understand the menu) or even LibreOffice Draw . You can use pdfchain for spliting and assembling pdf files. If none of the free stuffs suits your need and you don't mind paying (presumably you don't mind paying big bucks for adobe Pro) you may want to checkout pdfstudio which has a Linux version (and is a bit cheaper than Acrobat Pro)

    Edited: I don't know why normal users would need acroread anyway. It is bloated and slow and eats up all your resources. Evince or Okular are much better if one only needs to read normal pdfs (they also open other formats like .ps and .djvu, Don't think Acroread does that.) Also seeing how Adobe treats Linux lately I wouldn't be surprised if they will stop supporting it soon.

    Never mind. I see that PDF Studio 8 is an pdf editor, not a pdf creator.
