    Linux/Ubuntu System Administration

I would like some information about the philosophy of system administration,(how to approach

syst admin from a new user perspective) from those who have been in the field for numerous

years. Websites, books, etc would be a great help. I am writing a paper on the subject.

    Thanks,

    Theo

An old but interesting read about one long-time IT professional's trials, tribulations and experiences with various OSes. It touches on career, administration, choice and ultimate decisions about where to direct his time and energy. It's not at all technical, but from your brief characterization, you are looking for something more in the line of philosophy than technique.

While we are happy to serve as a resource for hints and for asking questions when you get stuck and need a little help, the Ubuntu Forums is not a homework service. Please do not post your homework assignments expecting someone else to do it for you. Any such threads will be taken offline and warnings or infractions may be issued.
Your thread seems more like the first sentence than the second...

I have a couple of Apress books by Sander van Vugt on Ubuntu Server Administration. They are dated 2008/2009, so are not current.

I got my first SysAdmin job at age 16 (sheesh 27 years ago!) There some topics that are universal regardless of the operating system you are administering.
    Some that come to mind:
    - How and when do I perform backups?
    - How and how often do I perform restores? (Restoring a backup is the ONLY way to fully know if you are getting good backups)
    - How are new users provisioned? What is the password policy?
    - How will shares and permissions be handled?
