The more I dig into the dynamic update issue with the internal DNS server the more I think its a lost cause. I don't think it's ready for production status. I think I might have to look at using bind.

Lingpanda: His tutorial is for samba 4.0.5. Is yours for 4.0.0 alpha18 or other versions? If so I would like to have a look too, if it's possible?

JnPson it was for 4.0.0. Not Alpha. It's a mash up of text from several blogs and forum posts. I take no credit for it. Let me go thru it to make sure nothing personal or confidential is in the doc and I will post. It's for Ubuntu 12.04. I find myself constantly adding to it.

Looks like the DNS issue has been resolved. Posted to the Samba mail list.

Here are the patches for managing SOA record from samba-tool dns command.
There is a also a patch for bug fix #9599.
The patches are also available in my dns-wip branch.
