12.04 fresh install fails mounting USB drives

    Hi
I have a problem when connecting USB external drive to my fresh install of 32 bit 12.04 Ubuntu:
the scsi_eh process crash: task scsi_eh_8:6332 blocked for more than 120 seconds.

    from system log:

I was able to connect this drive to a different ubuntu (12.04) with no problems.
so i guess it is some kind of hardware issue or setup issue.

Furthermore, same machine, dual boot Win7 : I can read the USB drives with no issues.
comment: its not for booting a USB drive, just wanted to do the usual backup...

any idea where to start looking ?

Re: 12.04 fresh install fails mounting USB drives

    SOLVED !

it seems to be a well known problem with Asus motherboards of the M3N78 family.
Not that it is a hardware problem since the same motherboard can work very well in Ubuntu 10.04 or Windows7.
Something bad happened in the later kernels of 11.04+

I simply bought a 20$ USB PCIe card and everything start working as expected.
I bought a card with Nec chipset since this chipset is widely automatically supported by most kernels out there.
    for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815283031
