12.04 64bit CUPS not detecting Epson XP-100 printer

    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to get an Epson XP-100 printer to work but CUPS for some reason won't see the printer or not properly. I did these to see if the printer is detected by my laptop based on this website https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems :

    Code:
    ashley@HPLP:~$ lsmod | grep usb
    usbhid 47238 0

I have also installed printer-driver-all metapackage via synaptic and epson-201204w driver from http://www.openprinting.org/printer/...-XP-100_Series.

I would be really grateful if anyone could help me out.

Re: 12.04 64bit CUPS not detecting Epson XP-100 printer

I've managed to get the printer working but not the scanner. Anyway here's what I did :

When I installed Steam, I noticed a lot of my 12.04.02 xorg packages had been downgraded.

So I removed Steam did autoremove and did this :

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-lts-quantal linux-generic-lts-quantal
Besides reverting my packages to their previous state, it also upgraded my kernel version from 3.2 something to 3.5.0-27-generic.

Then I installed the printing driver for the XP-100 from http://www.openprinting.org/printer/...-XP-100_Series and installed CUPS via synaptic.

I think you can also get the linux printing and scanning driver from this website when you search under "XP-100" and "Linux" :

    http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/searchModuleFromResult

However even after I've installed the scanning driver, associated data file and app, I can't get the my laptop to detect the scanner part of the printer as anything other than "Epson unknown".

Will update if I get the scanner to work.

Re: 12.04 64bit CUPS not detecting Epson XP-100 printer

so for a scanner driver I would go here

    http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/du...d2d6d8b481d435

    ......as in thumbnail.....

    and download and install

    1) iscan-data_1.22.0-1_all.deb ...............because Epson say install the data file first ...........

    then

    2) iscan_2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl7_amd64.deb .....ltd7 is for newer kernels........

    and

    3) userg_revQ_e.pdf is the english language version of the instructions

page 11 of the Guide suggests how to fix any identification issues.............

let us know if any of this is any help

    Hi pdc,

I did as you suggested however iscan ("Could not send command to scanner. Check the scanner's status ") for me does not work. However, simple-scan installed via Synaptic does. Thank you

Just for reference, I've also installed :

    sane
    python-imaging-sane
    libsane
    sane-utils
    libsane-extras
    libsane-extras-common
    libsane-common
