As others have said, get a Thinkpad instead. They're awesome and IBM customer service is extraordinary.

I have an HP, and Lenovo, and My parents have Samsungs all running (U)buntu and out of them all I'd take the HP or my work supplied Dell for buuld quality and out of the box readiness for Ubuntu.
Windows 8 and UEFI will make it "fun" to try to install. But avoid the higher end Ultrabooks if possible. The Intel SRT is a cache for Windows, but some with larger SSD, just turn off the cache and install / (root) into SSD making Ubuntu quick. But you still have the Optimus issues although nVidia just announced a beta with some support for Optimus. But that will not really work for a version or two. Some do have good luck with bumblebee.

I went and had a look at the Samsung in a shop, the build seemed quite cheap. I'm definitely leaning towards the Lenovo. I'd like to keep Windows (I don't currently use or even have a copy) but it's useful for firmware updates to sat-navs etc.
Have any of you who have the Lenovo had problems with the screen reflectivity? If it's only a mild problem then that's fine for me only I've read some reviews that say it's really bad. Unfortunately I haven't found a shop with the Z580 on display to check it myself. I did find a G580 which seemed fine but I don't know how similar they are.
Most Laptops have an access hatch for the hard drive, buy a small (120GB) drive and install windows to that, conversely keep Windows on the original drive and get the extra Drive for Linux. I can swap hard drives in under 5 minutes on mine.I'd like to keep Windows (I don't currently use or even have a copy) but it's useful for firmware updates to sat-navs etc.

Get the Lenovo! From my personal experience, Lenovo is a very good quality brand.
I went for the Lenovo
Now I'm waiting for the Home Delivery Network to pull their finger out. It was out for delivery yesterday but never turned up, they say it will arrive today but I don't hold out much hope.
