Is picassa 3.9 on Linux just totally dead?

Although I fear I know the answer, what is the current state of Picassa 3.9 on Linux -- I can get the program to startup in wine with the winetricks workaround, but anytime I go to sign into my google account, the program crashes. I fear this is what's happening to everyone and there isn't a workaround. Can anyone confirm this?

You can install Picasa 3.9 if you get the GIT Clone:
    http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html
I use Synaptic Package Manager to install PlayonLinux,
then start PlayonLinux and in Graphics choose Picasa 3.9 and accept all popups
