i found it interesting that his mom is saying things what most people in my company would say. i do not work in IT, so most colleagues would say things like that.

and so the helpdesk gives instructions such as: "go to desktop. double clik E." was searching for that E for quite some time. it didn't occur to me immediatelly that they want me to open the internet exporer.
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
Full disk backup (newer kernel -> suitable for newer PC): Clonezilla
User friendly full disk backup: Rescuezilla

Try xfce4 installed on the latest version (I stick to LTS versions myself and play with others on spare partitions).

If that 4.10 machine is online I would get it offline. It's a security risk. There hasn't been security updates, or any other kind, for years. The software - apps etc. - would also be extremely outdated.

Nice video and it does seem that gnome is moving backwards, there are some new features but the simple one's are lacking like intuative menu's and easy theme changing... Will stick with Lubuntu 13.04 since that just works for me...

Oh yeah, regarding workspaces and virtual desktops: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_desktop
